A Life Without Caries

How would you like it if you and your family never got another cavity? Is this even possible? The future may be here now.

Cavities are caused by a bacterial infection known as caries. This infection is not only treatable but preventable. We use the CariFree program. Carifree was developed to help patients become cavity free by assessing risks for dental disease, diagnosing the presence of the caries infection that causes caries and treating the infection using preventive medical techniques.

During your visit you will receive a caries risk assessment. We will evaluate whether you have factors present that put you at risk for decay. We then customize a home care program with the products and instructions needed to help keep you and your family cavity free.

We would much rather help patients prevent cavities than fix cavities.

The CariFree program has been amazingly effective in doing just that.

How to Get Rid of Ugly Nicotine Stains on Your Teeth

Chain smoking does not only post threat to our lungs but also to our teeth. If you have already quit smoking, it is not actually the end of it. Check your teeth and you might find some brown-colored stains on your front teeth. They are nicotine stains. You may feel a little uncomfortable flashing your smile given the discoloration. It limits you to interact well with people around you. So how can we actually remove those stains on your teeth?

A lot of people tend to do things on their own with home remedies. Remedies are not actually bad. However, there are just some cases that should only be handled by professionals. Removing the nicotine stain is one of those. Nicotine stains are actually difficult to remove without the proper instruments that are used by dentists.

Don’t be fooled by teeth whitening products. You may have heard of TV commercials on whitening toothpastes that claim to remove discoloration on the teeth. When you use one, you are amazingly surprised to have whiter teeth. You thought it was effective. But the truth is, the stain is still there, it just turned white.

To get rid of those stains, tooth cleaning at a dental clinic needs to be done to scrape them off. If they are not removed, they will harden and penetrate more on your teeth that will cause you bigger trouble. Once your teeth are white again, tooth cleaning should be done at least two times in a year.

If you do not feel good about teeth cleaning, discuss with your dentist if there are some other alternatives to restore your teeth. In some cases, tooth bleaching is recommended but still depends on the severity of the stains.

So forget all your worries about those ugly nicotine stains and get a dental check-up with Preston Dental Center now.
